Vast experience in deformity surgery (scoliosis) in both adult and paediatric patients, with special expertise in reconstructive spinal surgery.

ABOUT

Dr. Davis qualified as an Orthopaedic surgeon in 2009 and holds both an MMed (Orth) degree from Stellenbosch University as well as the FCOrth (SA) qualification from the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons South Africa. On completion of his Orthopaedic training he further developed his interest in spinal surgery through an internationally acclaimed, long-term AO Spine fellowship.

Subsequently Dr. Davis became the head of the Orthopaedic Spinal Service at Tygerberg Academic Hospital, a role that he has subsequantly passed on to one of his own fellowship trainees. Dr. Davis still functions as a consultant surgeon for complex spinal cases at Tygerberg Hospital and lectures in the Department of Orthopaedics, at the faculty of medicine & health sciences at Stellenbosch University.

Dr. Davis is actively involved in research at the University of Stellenbosch and oversees numerous research projects and publications.

In both public- and private practice, Dr. Davis treats complex spinal pathology including trauma, spinal infections, degenerative conditions, malignancies, deformities such as scoliosis, and reconstruction following previous failed back surgery.

As an exclusive spinal surgeon Dr. Davis is recognized as a leading deformity and reconstructive spinal surgeon in South Africa, and contributes significantly to the academic environment both locally and internationally.

He is currently actively serving on the academic board for the International Group for Advancement in Spinal Science (IGASS) http://igass-spine.org and hosts an internationally acclaimed long term IGASS fellowship for spinal surgeons from across the globe. In addition to this Dr. Davis is the chairman of the South African branch of the AO Spine foundation.

Dr. Davis follows a philosophy of individualized health care, and strives to know every patient attentively prior to undertaking any surgical intervention. A conservative approach is followed as far as possible, with surgery always seen as a last resort, and only after careful consideration of the risk to benefit ratio.

The most amazing surgeon I've have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
I had 6 back op over a period of 12 years and non were successful. Then a friend recommended Dr. J Davis.
At that time I was on 6 pain (ultracet ) per day. He interviewed me and I had various Scans etc. And was advised that my situation was not good as I had a clot in my leg at the time. However Dr. Davis informed me that I would have to be patient as I could only have the op in 6 months due to the clot.
I had the op with an amazing team of 6 Drs. and had a 16 hour op. Dr. Davis saved my life. An absolutely amazing man . He visited me twice a day 7 days a week and today 4 years later I'm able to walk around at the shop for hours . Stand cooking for hours and all this without one pain killer. This is 4 years ago .I forgot to mention l was in a wheelchair prior to my op. This man is JC WALKING ON WATER as far as I'm concerned.
Thank you Dr. Davis and your team.
