ABOUT
Dr. Van Rensburg started his career in chronic pain with a research study into the debilitating chronic pain condition, fibromyalgia. Seeing the suffering in people with chronic pain, he joined the Tygerberg Academic Hospital Pain Clinic, where he became the lead clinician for a number of years.
During this time, he joined the South African Pain Society (PainSA), and was elected to the position of Honorary Secretary in 2022.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Van Rensburg is an active researcher in therapeutics at Stellenbosch University, with a strong track record of publications. Over the years, he has built up substantial networks of both local and international collaborators. He supervises several Masters level students, in addition to Honours and undergraduate MBChB students.
Dr. Van Rensburg is an accomplished speaker, with numerous invitations to events and conferences. He is part of several national and international groups, and has served on the Health Research Ethics Committee of Stellenbosch University and the national Ministerially-appointed committee on therapeutics.
Dr. Van Rensburg follows an evidence-based approach to chronic pain, with each patient’s unique case personalised to their needs.
